This morning I was given the opportunity to work in a homeless shelter . It was quite a humbling experience . I was able to help pass out lunches , clean the building , and help the people staying the night gather their sleeping mattress's , sanitize them , and put them away . As I was helping out this morning , I couldn't help but think of how lucky I am to have a home to come to everyday . To have a roof over my head and a warm place to sleep , with yummy food to eat . I don't have to worry about being uncomfortably cold or hungry .
This holiday season I would ask a simple favor of you bloggers out there , and that isto give. It doesn't have to be anything big , but the simple act of giving can bring great pleasure .
Snow has fallen my friends and the Christmas decorations are up : D Let this holiday season begin .
To start off this marvelous season , I am going to tell you bloggers what Christmas / Holiday traditions that my family and I do every year .
One - My mom and I put up the Christmas tree .
Two - My family decorates the tree together .
Three - My mom and sister make Christmas cookies and the whole family decorates them .
Four - My mom makes yummy fudge .
Five - We draw names from a hat and whoever's name we picked we go and buy a present for them .
Six - I help my mom wrap presents .
Seven - We always get a pair of pajamas for Christmas .
Eight - We eat cinnamon rolls for breakfast on Christmas Day .
Nine - My dad passes out he presents on Christmas day .
Ten - Only two people can open a present at the same time .
Eleven - My dad wears a Santa hat when he passes out the presents .
Twelve - My siblings and I always sneak out of bed early in the morning to look at what Santa brought us .
So here is a question for all you bloggers out there , what are some Christmas / Holiday traditions that you participate in every year ?
Because I will not be able to get to a computer during this Thanksgiving holiday , here are the concluding days of what I am thankful for . I hope that you have thought about your blessings this month , because there are many . Happy Thanksgiving bloggers : )
Day 30
Today I am thankful for being able to gather as a family .
As everyone knows , Thanksgiving is a coming . Though it is still a while away , I thought I would present you bloggers with a challenge . The challenge is this : Everyday , write down in your journal / blog / or anything else you may have , or even voice it aloud - what you are thankful for . Just one thing each day . Now because I didn't post this on the first of November , I am going to start off with four things to make those days up .
Day 1 : I am thankful for my family .
Day 2 : I am thankful for my home .
Day 3 : I am thankful for a healthy body .
Day 4 : I am thankful for music .
Now, I don't promise to be any good at posting each day , so if I don't post it , then you'll know that I have written it down in my journal . But I wish you bloggers the best of luck in this challenge . If you eventually can't think of things that you are thankful for , get creative , there is always something , no matter how big or how small .
Let's just start off this post by saying this - You Are Beautiful .
Did you know that woman around the world don't describe themselves as beautiful ? In fact , "only two percent of thousands of women from
10 countries around the world consider themselves beautiful ."
In an article written by Dove , it says this :
"Only five percent feel comfortable describing
themselves as pretty and a mere nine percent feel comfortable
describing themselves as attractive . Additionally , just 13 percent
of women say they are very satisfied with their beauty ; 12 percent
say they are very satisfied with their physical attractiveness ; 17
percent are very satisfied with their facial attractiveness ; and
only 13 percent are very satisfied with their body weight and
shape. In fact , in a society captivated by diet and makeover
programs , a third of women around the world are very or somewhat
dissatisfied with their body weight ."
The article continues :
"Having assessed how women think about as well as evaluate their
own beauty and appearance , the study asks women about social issues
emerging from mass media and pop culture . . . . Across cultures , ages , ethnicities and
race - women make it clear they believe there is a one-dimensional
and narrow , physical definition of beauty . The findings show that
the ideas of beauty and physical attractiveness are largely
synonymous , and although both are highly valued by society , both
are rendered almost impossible to attain .
Respondents said they felt pressure to try and be that "perfect"
picture of beauty :
E . B . Doodles
- Sixty-three percent strongly agree that women today are
expected to be more attractive than their mother's generation .
- Sixty percent strongly agree that society expects women to
enhance their physical attractiveness .
- Forty-five percent of women feel women who are more beautiful
have greater opportunities in life .
- More than half (59%) strongly agree that physically attractive
women are more valued by men .
The study explores the degree to which mass media has played a
role in portraying and communicating a narrow definition of
beauty :
- More than two-thirds (68%) of women strongly agree that "the
media and advertising set an unrealistic standard of beauty that
most women can't ever achieve ."
- Well over half of all women (57%) strongly agree that "the
attributes of female beauty have become very narrowly defined in
today's world ."
The media and pop culture affect the way we think of ourselves more than we think . The media portrays this image of what a beautiful woman should look like - when in reality , woman around the world cannot achieve something that isn't real . Take the billboards, ads, and commercials you see on T . V . or on your computer for example , a lot of the woman that are being shown have been seriously altered with photo shop and make-up . For example - take a look at the link below of a video that shows the results of what photo shop and make-up can do - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knEIM16NuPg
The article also talks about what woman think that beauty means - the article lists these examples of what woman listed :
- happiness -kindness
-wisdom -dignity -love -authenticity -self-realization
More results of what beauty means from the article are this :
- Seventy-seven percent strongly agree that beauty can be
achieved through attitude , spirit and other attributes that have
nothing to do with physical appearance .
- Eighty-nine percent strongly agree that a woman can be
beautiful at any age .
- Eighty-five percent state every woman has something about her
that is beautiful .
"[Now] the possibilities for the beautiful to be known, found
and represented have been infinitely extended and the ways in which
female beauty can be defined have been profoundly deepened ."
So there you have it . For those of you who don't feel beautiful - think again . You are . Beauty doesn't depend on looks - but the attitude that you present and the how you decide to portray yourself . Be your own kind of beautiful .
Jodi Marie Robinson said the following : "True beauty is felt more than it is seen ." Sophie Loren said this : Beauty is how you feel inside , and it reflects in your eyes . It is not something physical .
So let me say it one more time . You are beautiful . Please believe it . Remind yourself that you are when you look in the mirror .
Anyways . This was kind of a long post , and I feel like I am kind of just rambling on . So if you want to read more please read this article entitled "True Beauty" by Elder Lynn G . Robbins (Link below) . It is a fabulous article ! And for more on the Dove article , you can read more at the link below .
Thanks for reading bloggers . Have a wonderful day <3
E . B . Doodles are something that I will post on and off - just like the E . B. Photography . Unfortunately my computer is having some technical difficulties and won't let me upload my pictures from my camera . SO - I've decided to have E . B . Doodles until I can figure out how to get pictures on my computer . Sorry about the poor quality of my phone's picture !
It is that time of year folks - The leaves are beginning to show signs that fall is getting ever closer . It's one of my favorite seasons . I just love the vibrant colors that nature creates . I'm a nerd , I know . But it's true - fall is great ! It makes me want to watch Halloween movies , like Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin , or The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow . And even though I am too old to go trick - or - treating , it makes me want to dress up in crazy costumes . Plus , I love accessorizing my outfits with scarves and other things .
Get out your scarves , hats , and sweaters - fall is here !

So I was thinking , what are some activities that are fun to do in the fall ? Here are some of the things that I came up with :
- Make candy or caramel apples .
- Decorate your house with fall time or Halloween decorations .
- Toss around a football with friends or family .
- Start coming up with a Halloween costume .
- Have a bonfire .
- Make a fort .
- Make Halloween goodies .
- Take a walk and collect leaves .
- Pick apples .
- Learn to knit .
- Start a puzzle .
- Get out the board games and play with family or friends .
- Have a game night with neighbors and friends .
- Make chili .
- Try out a new soup recipe .
I don't know ! Whatever sounds fun - just give it a go .
So here is my question for you bloggers out there : What kinds of fun activities do you participate in during the fall season ?
This past weekend my family , some friends , and I were able to go hiking . With it being my idea , I decided to climb Beacon Rock - and here is what it looks like down below . . .
Picture From Google
My computer has been acting really wonky lately and will no longer let me upload pictures from my camera , so I am stuck with emailing myself pictures from my phone . It sucks . So I apologize in advance that I was not able to get a picture of the Rock myself and for the poor quality of my phones pictures that you will see below.
But anyways - my family and I have been looking for ways to get more active so that we can be healthier . As a result we are looking for some fun activities to do , such as hiking . This was my second time climbing Beacon Rock , and my mom's third - but none of my other family members have climbed it - so it was a fun time for them to try something new .
So without further ado - here are some pictures from our adventure . . .
